Types of Scavenging, Advantages and Disadvantages : Scavenging are generally three types: Uniflow Scavenging Reverse or Loop Scavenging Cross flow Scavenging Uniflow scavenging: In this, both the fresh air and exhaust gases move towards the equipment in the same direction. therefore it is called as uniflow scavenging. in this the intake port is mounted on the bottom and the exhaust port is mounted on the upper end.fresh air comes from the bottom of the cylinder and pushes the exhaust gas in upward direction. the exhaust gases pass through the exhaust port to the atmosphere. and again the fresh air enters the cylinder from the intake port. this type of scavenging is done in a large two stroke diesel engine. Advantages: From uniflow the power output is increase. it is very efficient as compare to both reverse and cross scavenging. It has the throttle position and the high speed whatever happens which is always scavenging. Disadvantages: It is very costly. It is difficult to c...
